Got a call from Dustin in Athens Wednesday night. It was the usual "How ya doin'?...good, how you doin'? And then came..."I got a problem here"...Oh?...should I be sitting down? Well, seems the serpentine belt on his car broke on the way to work that day and he and Aaron, after 2 hours work, were unable to get a new belt to find it's way onto the pulleys properly. My question was "What do you need from me"?
"Do you think you could come down after work tomorrow and try to fix it"?
"Ummm...well...ummm...Ok, I'll be there around 5:00", (just about dark, the best time to work on cars in parking lots)
So I show the next evening. We attempt to install the new belt and discover that it is the wrong size. About 15 inches too short. Oh...did I mention it's pouring down rain while we are discovering said belt shortness?
Off to the auto parts store we go in the pouring rain. The counter guy says "Ha Ha, looks like you got the wrong size"...Can't get anything by those Athens auto parts guys!
Back into the rain we go with the corrected size belt. We get it installed and after starting the car, we find the reason the belt broke in the first place...Broken water pump. "Hey Buddy, let's pick this up on Saturday...Whadoya say?
I went back this morning and Dustin and I installed a new water pump on his car. It was a very tough job, with many obstacles, but it was a lot of fun doing it together.
